Local Arts Agency

The Norwich Arts Council was designated the Local Arts Agency for the City of Norwich in 1995. In addition to this local designation, NAC has been additionally designated an LAA for the state, and have just completed a cultural and historic inventory and needs assessment of the region, through a grant supplied by the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism with the assistance of the Sachem Fund. NAC will continue with the state program and act as a regional LAA, partly through state grant funding and partly through funds raised by NAC.

The purpose of the statewide program is to develop a network of committed LAAs who are helping to develop a statewide culture and tourism infrastructure to more effectively serve Connecticut’s citizens. NAC’s activities as an LAA include but are not limited to marketing arts programs produced by regional organizations through calendar listings, web site links and web marketing, e-newsletters, and the production of regional brochures which feature our area’s varied arts groups and individual artists.

In addition, NAC is currently building our networking events for artists and anyone employed in the creative fields.  If you are interested in attending an Arts After Hours event, please let us know and we will be happy to add you to our invitation list! We believe that there is strength in numbers, and understand that we can all help each other, especially in these challenging economic times, simply by sharing.

The LAA office of the Norwich Arts Council has begun compiling our artist listing, to be available to schools and others who book programs. This free listing of area visual and performing artists is meant to assist these artists in marketing themselves, as well as to facilitate the connection between a potential client base and program buyers, at no fee to either. The Norwich Arts Council takes very seriously the findings of the study by the National Governors’ Association indicating that the arts are an effective economic stimulus to any region.
