First Friday in February may be the perfect way to celebrate an early Valentine’s Day without the restaurant crush. Here are some wonderful ways to surprise your loved one:
Start your evening off early at one of Norwich’s wonderful eateries with an early supper and then visit the NAC Gallery for the opening reception of the Connecticut Women Artists Council Show.
This gallery opening and others downtown are free to the public, so take a little time to enjoy. Make sure to visit galleries all over the downtown area, including the Gallery at the Wauregan on Main Street or the 114 Main Street Gallery.
Local crooner
Once you’ve enjoyed your supper, wine and sweets, head upstairs for a special evening at the Donald L. Oat Theater. Crooner Steve D’Agostino has been performing songs from the “Great American Songbook” for more than 20 years in Connecticut, including performances at Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods.
What better way to romance that special someone than to the tunes of Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Tony Bennet, Dean Martin, Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash? Who could woo better than Johnny Mercer?
Now, if you are interested in really making the night special, you might want to have a box of chocolate-dipped strawberries delivered to NAC with your name on them. As a special surprise, they will be placed on your table before the event. Feel free to drop off whatever other surprise you want on your table in advance, and NAC volunteers will be happy to set it out.
Spirit of Broadway
If music isn’t your thing but a great musical is, then once you’ve seen and eaten your fill, head over to see “The Day Boy and the Night Girl,” a fairy tale-like musical at the Spirit of Broadway Theater. Spirit of Broadway serves a tasty array of desserts, and you can bring your own bottle of wine. For a $5 corking fee, your wine will be opened and glasses will be supplied, making for another part of a perfect evening.
