Artist Statement

Art is all consuming, an essential aspect of life. I pay considerable attention to art all around me – everywhere. Creating art is a compulsion. Painting has long been an important facet of my life. Watercolor, versus oil and other media, is still my favorite compulsion after many years. I am constantly excited by shapes, contrasts, and ideas all around me. It is joyful to paint something I get intrigued with, and often it may be just a small part of the overall painting that has attracted me. Subject matter, in my opinion, is not as important as the atmosphere, light or shapes that involved it. I definitely prefer to paint on location. It is stimulating, also, to try new materials, colors, and techniques. As a result, my painting as a collection shows a great amount of variety. My style of work tends towards representational art, but occasionally my work can be quite abstracted.
