During my travels, I feel drawn to flowers for their vibrant colors, tones and fantastic textures. Going through my photos I realized I took more pictures of flowers than people. Only my museum shots outnumbered them. I have even stopped the car so I could go out and take pictures of some vivid colors that caught my eye along the roadside.
I wanted to tell a story about artists and how we worked and thought and planned before we picked up a brush. My paintings start with one of my photos and devolve into a small painting and then into an abstraction of that painting. They are happy paintings that come out of a difficult time in my life and also in our country's life. I believe that you have to look at the brighter side of things and art will take you there
My background in art is strange. I was told as a third-grader that I could not draw and I took music lessons and I never had an art class. After taking a drawing-one class in a local college at the ripe old age of 52 and then transferring to U Conn where I graduated with a BFA Summa Cum Laude at age 58 and then on to my MFA at Vermont College at 60 years. After school, I reached out to Norwich Arts Gallery and have been a member since then.


The ToneShifters

The Norwich Arts Center’s First Friday LIVE! SOUNDS rolls on when the ToneShifters take the stage of the intimate Donald L. Oat Theater on April 4th. Formed in 2009, the band’s music spans Americana and Roots Rock genres. Their music is a high-energy mix they call Swinginrockabluesabilly, featuring guitar, accordion, Latin percussion, bass, drums, and four vocalists led by Chris MacKay. It’s anything but typical.
The band has previously been nominated for a New England Music Award for the state of Connecticut and a regional Whalie Award for best Blues/Country/Rock act as well as a “Critic’s Choice” award.
The band released “Sun Set – Live! Raw! Vintage!,” a four song Live EP recorded at the legendary Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee in 2020.
Late in 2021, Aldora Britain Records in the UK chose two tracks, “Coming Back to You” and “Go Speed,” to add to a digital compilation album of undiscovered independent artists from all over the globe called “Pretty Words on the 24th.” Both tracks garnered back-to-back “Pick of the Week” honors followed by “Coming Back to You” cracking the “Top 20” on the Aldora Britain Records Independent Charts.
In 2023, the release of the Alabama Moon EP was recorded. at the iconic Fame Studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Also, there were interviews with the Music of America Podcast and Aldora Britain Records UK online magazine.
Connecticut and New York Blues/Rock Hall of Fame guitarist Tom “The Suit” Forst joined the band in 2024.
